CHRISTMAS FAIR
The
Friends Of Elvaston held their Christmas Fair in the
Eagle Centre Market on Saturday, December 2nd. Once
again, the event was an outstanding success and proved to
be very popular with the general public. One or two
people feel so strongly on the issue of Elvaston Castle
that they made healthy individual contributions to our
funds without actually buying anything! We applaud such
generosity and will endeavour to continue to campaign as
strongly as ever on the community's behalf.
One
young woman visiting the stall volunteered her time to
the Friends, citing a reason we have heard on so many
occasions, which is also very poignant. When she was
growing up, Elvaston Castle was the place her family
visited and spent many happy hours together. Quite
simply, she now wants the same facilities to be available
for her own children. Unfortunately, due to the greed of
others, we cannot always take such things for granted
anymore, even though tradition has formed the
backbone of life in this country.
Such
lovely people and their passion and outrage at the
attempted theft of such a wonderful public asset by
private, profit seeking developers, is the inspiration
for our continuing fight for justice. We will not cease
in our efforts - we will redouble them. We will not
shrink from the fight - we will continue to spread the
word of what is happening at Elvaston; Our website is
already looked at on a regular basis by readers
throughout the world, East and West. Our support is
growing daily. We will not surrender!
