DCC HYPOCRISY

In order to highlight the double standards of the Derbyshire County Council, please read the following which was published on the DCC’s website in December 2004. The report outlines the work of the Countryside Service, part of the Environmental Services Department. The sentiments expressed in the item are admirable, the kind of goals that we are all seeking from the countryside.

However, unfortunate is not a strong enough term to highlight the difference between the sentiments expressed in these pages and the situation at Elvaston Castle, where the same authority that produced this document has ridden roughshod over the wishes of the community, granting a 150-year lease on the Castle and Estate to a private developer, for the purposes of turning it a hotel/golf/leisure complex which will be very exclusive. Read it for yourself and see what you think – Is this hypocrisy of the worst kind?
